Super Wild Card weekend is upon us! After the dust settles, the Green Bay Packers opponent in the divisional round of the playoffs will be determined. The lowest remaining seed in the NFC playoffs will visit Lambeau Field January 16 or 17.
“No real game specific stuff,” ESPN-Wisconsin’s Jason Wilde tells Wisconsin’s Afternoon News regarding the Packers practice week. “They have to wait to see who the lowest seed standing is after Super Wild Card weekend and then they’ll know who they face.”
Of the NFC teams in the playoffs, the only teams the Packers are assured of not facing in the divisional round are the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks. The four teams who could make the trek to Green Bay include the Washington Football Team, Tampa Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams and Chicago Bears.
Fans of Wilde & Tausch (9-NOON on 94.5 ESPN) are all for one of two scenarios.
“They want to see the Bears first, and Washington second,” Wilde continues. “Of course I – cheering for stories – want Rodgers versus Brady. And then I want Rodgers versus Brees. And then I want Rodgers versus Mahomes in the Super Bowl. That’s the story line I’d like to follow for the next few weeks.”
The weather should offer the Packers a home field advantage of sorts. In addition, a maximum of 6,000 fans will be in attendance. It will be the largest fan gathering at Lambeau Field all season.
“I think the defense could get the biggest lift,” Wilde explains. “Because even though 6,000 people are not nearly as loud as 80,000, there were times this season where you really felt the defense needed the juice.”
The Packers defense is hitting it’s stride entering the post-season. In four of it’s last five games, the Packers have allowed 16 points or less. Three of those fives games were played at Lambeau Field.
