Twitter has permanently suspends Donald Trump’s account on their social media platform.
In a statement, Twitter says their decision came after his account made two posts Friday (January 8, 2021.):
“The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”
“To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”
Twitter says they read the posts in context to the events that took place at the U.S. Capitol, and used their Glorification of Violence policy as a guide.
“As such, our determination is that the two Tweets above are likely to inspire others to replicate the violent acts that took place on January 6, 2021, and that there are multiple indicators that they are being received and understood as encouragement to do so.”

After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence.https://t.co/CBpE1I6j8Y

Donald Trump has used his Twitter account during his presidency to provide official statements for his administration, along with his own opinions about national and world events.
The social media platform had banned Trump for 12 hours earlier this week shortly after he had posted a video Wednesday asking people who rioted at the Capitol to “Go home. We love you.”
Twitter also suspended the accounts of Trump allies Michael Flynn and Sidney Powell.
Twitter’s decision comes one day after Facebook announced he would not be allowed to post on his account until after Inauguration Day.
UPDATE:
The White House released a statement from President Trump following the decision by Twitter to permanently suspend his personal account.
“As I have been saying for a long time, Twitter has gone further and further in banning free speech, and tonight, Twitter employees have coordinated with the Democrats and the Radical Left in removing my account from their platform, to silence me — and YOU, the 75,000,000 great patriots who voted for me. Twitter may be a private company, but without the government’s gift of Section 230 they would not exist for long.
“I predicted this would happen. We have been negotiating with various other sites, and will have a big announcement soon, while we also look at the possibilities of building out our own platform in the near future. We will not be SILENCED!
“Twitter is not about FREE SPEECH. They are all about promoting a Radical Left platform where some of the most vicious people in the world are allowed to speak freely.
“STAY TUNED!”
