Presque Isle (Vilas County)
If you are looking for an off the beaten path getaway this winter, head North to Presque Isle, known as ‘Wisconsin’s Last Wilderness’. Located in Vilas County, this quaint small town has a number of resorts, lodges and vacation cabins for families and couples seeking a quiet winter respite.
The name Presque Isle is French, coming from the phrase “Almost an Island” because of how many lakes there are in the area. Tucked under towering pines, these lakes and nearby trails provide a playground for outdoor winter fun. From snowmobiling and cross-country skiing to snowshoeing and ice skating, Presque Isle is an outdoor recreation haven to check out this season.
Baraboo (Sauk County)
The historical downtown square, charming hospitality and beloved local attractions make Baraboo a winter getaway destination that feels like you’ve just stepped into a holiday film. Check out the Ringling House Bed & Breakfast for lodging. This iconic yellow house was built by Charles Ringling himself and now operates as a cozy bed and breakfast in the heart of Baraboo. Or, stay at the Inn at Wawanissee Point, a secluded luxury villa on the outside of town near Devil’s Lake State Park. The Inn has four guest rooms and is located on a gorgeous 42-acre property.

This charm is on full display in the historical downtown Main Street, where you’ll find buildings rehabilitated and restored to their late 1800’s architectural beauty. Sheboygan Falls Main Street has won multiple awards for historical preservation. Check out the Historic Walking Tour, a self-guided stroll around town where you can learn about the stories and features behind these gorgeous buildings and landmarks.
Check out the Rochester Inn for cozy, comfortable lodging in town. Located in a historical building, the Inn has the thoughtful touches of a bed and breakfast with the privacy and amenities of a boutique hotel. Sheboygan Falls has a great mix of delicious restaurants that are offering curbside pickup and takeout.
