The legacy of Mike McCarthy is being remembered today in Green Bay and beyond.
After 13 seasons as head coach of the Packers, McCarthy was relieved of his duties following a 20-17 loss to the Cardinals.Â
“I was shocked,” Voice of the Packers Wayne Larrivee tells Wisconsin's Morning News.Â
“I thought that if they were going to make a change, it was going to be after the season. But when you look at the situation, let's say you made the decision as an organization that you're going to go in a different direction after the season, you're obviously going to be looking at other candidates, you're obviously going to be laying the groundwork to hire a new head coach. I think it would be somewhat disingenuous if you did that while you still had your head coach in place.”
Larrivee adds that this will also allow McCarthy time to get a new job. Something he thinks will not be difficult.
Packers Radio Network analyst Larry McCarren agrees.
“It's so hard to find proven winners in the NFL,” McCarren tells Wisconsin's Morning News. “What may have run its course with one organization will be a breath of fresh air and new possibilities and new life for another. We're talking about a man that oversaw nine trips to the playoffs, four NFC championship games, Super Bowl championship, six division titles. You can go on and on. And that will look very, very attractive to somebody in the market for a head coach.”
At the top of that likely list is the Cleveland Browns. Â
