A 30-year-old man from Milwaukee was in critical condition Thursday morning after riding in a reportedly stolen car fleeing from Milwaukee Police, getting ejected from that car after it crashed into another, and then being struck by a police squad car.
The incident happened just after 6:30 a.m. Thursday morning near the corner of North 30th Street and West Fond du Lac Avenue on Milwaukee’s north side.
Police say that at about 6:30, police were near the corner of North 30th Street and West North Avenue when they stopped what reportedly was a stolen car. The driver of that car did not follow police orders and then started a pursuit with police following.
The chase went about five blocks north to 30th and Fond du Lac, when that reportedly stolen car crashed into another vehicle.
The passenger in that allegedly stolen car was ejected from the vehicle. A Milwaukee Police car then struck that man.
Rescue crews took that man to a Milwaukee-area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
Police say a 35-year-old man was driving the allegedly stolen car. He was arrested and suffered what was described as minor injuries.
According to MPD, the officer involved in the crash has been placed on administrative duty. He is 26 years old and has been on the MPD force for six and a half years.
