Milwaukee Police are are seeking criminal charges after a 4-year-old was left overnight in a Milwaukee tow lot.
The child was left inside a minivan after the driver was cited and arrested for an OWI near 39th and W. Forest Home Ave. Tuesday morning. She was found by a police officer 8 hours later crying for help.
“It’s my understanding that this was a tinted van that had multiple rows of seats and she was sleeping under numerous blankets,” Milwaukee Alderman Mark Borkowski told WTMJ. “The driver was so intoxicated that she wasn’t able to communicate. I don’t want to cast blame on our officers, but clearly this child should have been seen.”
Alderman Borkowski says a 10-month old was also riding on the lap of a passenger inside the van.
The Milwaukee Department of Public Works says they want to make sure this never happens again, so they are reviewing protocol for the future.
Milwaukee Police are expected to release additional information about their investigation in the coming days.
