MILWAUKEE — Only a couple more Fridays left during this lent season and I would be remiss to not stop by a Milwaukee staple, the Lakefront Brewery.
According to Onsite Business Development and Overseer of Guest Experience Dylan Mazurkiewicz, the fish fry has been a big deal “for a long time here.”
“We took over the restaurant in 2013,” Mazurkiewicz said. It was already an award-winning fish fry here before that. We’ve kind of continued on the legacy.”
And while they do serve fish everyday, Friday’s are by far the most popping, Mazurkiewicz said.
“People still pack this whole beer hall full on Friday nights for that fish fry,” Mazurkiewicz said. “Especially during lent season right now. Our chef told us we go through 300 pounds of fish every single Friday.”

More fish options are available solely on Fridays. So that’s part of the reason for the high traffic on that day.
“We’ve got smelt right now for lent, baked cod, fired cod, walleye,” Mazurkiewicz said. “I think there’s shrimp. We’ve got a few options.”
But more than the fish, the atmosphere is what keeps people coming back.
“I think a lot of it has to do with our atmosphere,” Mazurkiewicz said. “We have this really traditional German-style beer hall. Long table seating so you can kind of make some new friends while you’re eating. We have a polka band that plays on the stage here behind me on Friday nights. It’s just this lively, energetic setting. And the food’s pretty dynamite too.”
Now let’s go behind the scenes, into the kitchen of Lakefront Brewery.
