The all-time leading rusher for the Green Bay Packers faces legal trouble after an arrest involving suspected child abuse.
Ahman Green faces charges of child abuse and disorderly conduct after being arrested Sunday night.
The criminal complaint says that someone called authorities at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday night saying that Green’s teenage child had knocked on her door and complained that they had been abused.
Moments alter, his child’s mother had said that Green had hit the child in the face.
She said that the incident involved their child doing dishes to make money from Green, something the child was refusing to do.
His child then said he tried to pull the victim into the kitchen, but the child broke out away and ran to someone who acts as a nanny and that she “held on to (the child) in hopes that (he) would leave (the child) alone,” but Green reportedly then pulled at his child and, according to the complaint, threw the child against kitchen cabinets.
The complaint said that Green was hurting his child while making them put silverware away, ripped his child’s shirt, and then allegedly punched the child in the face.
A deputy said Green’s child showed that the left eye was “swollen, slightly black and blue.”
His child then did the dishes, packed a bag and snuck out of the house.
The nanny said that she did not recall Green hit or push the child down.
The complaint said Green spoke with a deputy, told the deputy he slapped his child’s face, but did not intend to hit their glasses, causing the injury to an eye. He said, according to the complaint, he may have thrown his child to the ground and against the cabinets.
Another deputy spoke with Green who said, according to the complaint, he pushed his child who “may have gone into the cabinets.” That deputy says that Green “stated he believes when he slapped (his child) on the head, he must have struck (their) eyeglasses” and he “did not mean to strike (the child) in the glasses.”
Green, who is 40 years old, played from 2000-06 and 2009 in Green Bay.
He rushed for 8,322 yards, a team record. He also set records for most rushing attempts, most consecutive years with 1,000-plus yards rushing, most yards in a season (1,883 in 2003), most yards in a game (218 vs. Denver in 2003) and most yards on a single run (98 vs. Denver in 2003).
