After refusing multiple interview requests from those who cover the team, the Brooklyn Nets and Kyrie Irving have been fined $25,000 apiece by the NBA.
Instead of speaking with the media, Irving, instead issued a statement. The final sentence reads, “I do not talk to pawns. My attention is worth more.”
What Irving fails to realize is that media plays a key role in telling his story. One of charity, overcoming obstacles, and developing into an elite playmaker in the NBA. The greater the wedge between Irving and the media, the more those stories will be left under wraps.
The headlines instead will be about his childish behavior, and referring to the media as “pawns.” The ultimate in disrespect.
