It is said by some that how Milwaukee votes could decide the next president. Milwaukee’s city leaders have voted unanimously to guarantee every voter will get the chance to receive a ballot in the mail for that election.
TMJ4 News reports that the city has approved a plan to send an application for an absentee ballot to every registered voter living in the City of Milwaukee.
The application would include a stamped envelope for return to the Milwaukee Election Commission.
The move comes in the wake of how Milwaukee had to shrink its voting center total from 180 to five for the spring presidential primary and local general election in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. At least seven people have had confirmed cases of coronavirus directly traced to standing in line for the April election.
“The right to vote is sacred in our democracy, and I am grateful for the support of my colleagues on SafeVote,” Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic, who authored the resolution, told TMJ4 News.
“The unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic has made congregating in groups a threat to public health, and we recognize that voting by mail must be seen as the best way to ensure the best possible participation in a vital election.”
