One of the largest annual corporate conventions in Wisconsin has been halted for 2020 in the wake of coronavirus.
Northwestern Mutual announced Monday it will be using a virtual convention instead of its in-person event, according to the Journal Sentinel. It was originally scheduled for July in Milwaukee but pushed back to August.
The estimated economic impact of the convention was expected to be $13.2 million.
“Although the threat of COVID-19 may improve over the summer, it’s necessary for us to make our decision with currently available public health data,” a company statement, cited by the Journal Sentinel, said.
“We feel it’s best for our employees, our financial advisors who travel here from all over the U.S., and for the Milwaukee community that we meet online.”
