Most mock NFL drafts don’t have the Green Bay Packers choosing a running back at No. 30. After all, they currently have proven veterans Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams, plus the recently-resigned Tyler Ervin.
However, a Heisman Trophy candidate who tore up Big Ten defenses while playing running back at the University of Wisconsin seems intrigued by the idea of becoming a Green Bay Packer.
“I would love to go back to Wisconsin…if they decide to bring me back to my second home (the state of Wisconsin), that would be awesome,” Jonathan Taylor told ESPN Wisconsin’s “Wilde And Tausch” Wednesday morning.
“You’ve heard talk of Matt (LaFleur, Packers coach) possibly thinking about adding a third back, so you never know.”
Taylor, the 2019 Doak Walker winner for best running back in college football, has been working out in Arizona while physically distancing and enduring stay-at-home orders due to coronavirus. It has greatly affected how he has had discussions with NFL teams considering him.
“It’s a real tedious process, especially at a time like this. Before, you would have visits…private workouts,” said Taylor, the sixth-leading rusher in the history of NCAA Division 1 FBS football.
“Now, you’re on Zoom meetings. You’re on Facetime. You’re sending videos of workouts.”
Taylor got a leg up on many draftees, as the University of Wisconsin held its pro day ahead of many other schools – and before coronavirus really struck.
“Now, I’m actually thankful. If it wasn’t for an early Pro Day, I wouldn’t have had a chance to showcase my talents another time.”
