It’s been a year since the Green Bay Packers and Jordy Nelson parted ways, but many believe the Packers made a mistake in letting the third-leading receiver in Packers history go and become an Oakland Raider.
When Jason asked Nelson about that on Wilde and Tausch, which airs on WTMJ sister station ESPN Milwaukee, Nelson seemed to give a half-kidding, half-exasperated “Can we just move on?”
His comment did reveal a bit of truth with how Nelson has moved forward as an Oakland Raider after nine seasons in green and gold, though the move was not exactly of his choosing.
“I wasn’t happy. (I was) disappointed,” he admitted.
“There’s a small chance you could play your whole career in one place with one coach and one quarterback and one offense…when there’s that opportunity, no one wants to move their family halfway across the country.”
With the Raiders in 2018, Nelson played a featured wide receiver position that perhaps he might not had with Green Bay after having approximately half the receptions and touchdowns he had in 2017 compared to 2016. However, seven of those 2017 games did not include Aaron Rodgers at quarterback.
“In a perfect world, I would have played a couple more years in Green Bay,” Nelson added.
At the same time, I’ve met a lot of great people out here, met a lot of great teammates.”
Nelson confirmed he will be a Raider in 2019, which means he is scheduled for a Lambeau Field “homecoming” with the Raiders in a regular season game against his former teammates, with date and time to be determined.
It’s also not yet determined whether his current team will be the “Oakland” Raiders or will have another city provide a home field for them in 2019 before their permanent move to Las Vegas in 2020.
“I think at the end of the day, we’ll be there (in Oakland). I think that would be the best for the fans, the best as a team.”
