UPDATE at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2023: The teenage boy who was arrested in Racine for shooting and seriously injuring his 14-year-old ex-girlfriend is being charged as an adult with first-degree intentional homicide.
TMJ4 spoke to the victim’s family, who identified her as Jazlene Jones. She was recovered from the area of S Memorial Dr & 21st St in Racine with numerous gunshots on Sunday morning and eventually airlifted to Milwaukee for emergency care.
She survived the attack, but this incident will impact her life forever moving forward. A GoFundMe campaign launched by loved ones claims that Jones, who was struck by five bullets including numerous shots aimed at her head, lost an eye in the attack.
She went through a major surgery and has more procedures to come. She is living proof of God’s miracles and has a long road to recovery. Due to this unforeseen circumstance her mom Miranda will have to stop working to be Jazlene’s caretaker and is also a single mom of three. Please consider helping her mother Miranda in any way you can. Prayers are always appreciated.

A criminal complaint obtained by TMJ4 claims that the suspect, whose identity is being withheld due to his age, admitted to shooting her because she broke up with him and posted something that angered him on Snapchat.
He will remain in custody with bail placed at $500,000 as he awaits further details on an attempted first-degree intentional homicide case. If he is found guilty, the Racine teen could spend up to 60 years in prison for his crime.
This is a breaking development. An update and/or follow-up will be issued when further details are revealed. The following story has been left unaltered from its original publishing.
