A Wauwatosa police officer is on suspension after a vote Wednesday afternoon by the city’s police and fire commission.
Officer Joseph Mensah has been involved in three deadly shootings while on-duty in the last five years.
The unanimous vote comes after the Wauwatosa Common Council passed a non-binding resolution calling for Mensah to be transitioned out of his role with the police department.
The special meeting Wednesday was to take up a complaint filed against Mensah by the family of Jay Anderson, who was shot and killed in 2016.
Officer Mensah was cleared of any wrongdoing in two of the shootings. The most recent, which happened in February, is still under investigation.
The investigation into the death of Anderson will be conducted by a third-party investigator.
