Multiple early snow storms are stretching budgets thin for some public works crews.
Some municipalities in the northern part of the state have already topped their budgets for 2019.
Ozaukee County isn’t there yet, but an above average November and December snowfall could put them over the top.
“We maintain a small reserve for these type of situations,” said Ozaukee County Public Works Director Jon Edgren. “If we have an unusually large winter, we have a little bit of cash to surf that wave.”
Those reserves can be typically used for other projects for the year.
Edgren says the most difficult part of the early season snow is the stress on the staff, who needed to quickly transition their equipment from paving to plowing.
