The Milwaukee Brewers have chosen to decline the option on the contract on first baseman Eric Thames, on the same day they picked up a minor league first baseman in a trade.
The team announced they were letting Thames, 32, become a free agent. His contract option was set to be $7.5 million.
Thames hit .247 with 25 home runs, 61 RBI and an .851 OPS.
The Brewers also said they are picking up the option of catcher Manny Pina. His contract is set to be $1.85 million next year.
Pina, 32, played 76 games last year. He hit .228 with 7 home runs and 25 RBI and an OPS of .724.
