The man known as Mr. Baseball, WTMJ Hall of Fame Brewers voice Bob Uecker, is the longtime king of comedy for our national pastime.
But after coronavirus temporarily silenced him from providing the sound of summer in Wisconsin, it brings some of us to tears to hear him again.
Uecker has been deeply moved by how people feel about his broadcasts and the part he plays in their lives. He spoke before Wednesday night’s first Brewers game broadcast on WTMJ since the COVID-19 pandemic started.
“It means a lot that people listen to you. Wait for you, are concerned about you healthwise.” On @Brewers zoom call Bob Uecker is genuinely touched when told that some fans say they will get emotional hearing his voice after what they have gone thru & missing baseball. #Brewers pic.twitter.com/HJYs6gdQyu

Then, at precisely 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, that voice came across again to call the Brewers’ preseason tune-up against the Chicago White Sox. Though Uecker, Jeff Levering and Lane Grindle have to do road game broadcasts from Miller Park to help protect them from COVID-19, it’s not stopping them from bringing the magic of baseball to you.
And when Christian Yelich bombed an opposite field home run in an empty Guaranteed Rate Field, Uecker – sitting in an empty Miller Park – found the perfect opportunity to ham it up.
At a time when we really need it, Bob Uecker delivers again.
Happy 50th year of calling Brewers game, Ueck!
