One person is injured in an officer-involved shooting by the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department July 22, 2020.
Deputies were called to the area of Lawnsdale Road and Highway 164 just before 6 p.m. of a 37-year-old suicidal man who had reportedly poured gasoline over himself and had a long rifle.
Deputies found the man outside his home, and during their encounter the man was injured. The department says deputies performed life saving measures on scene before an ambulance took him to a hospital for treatment.
The deputies involved range in experience with the department from five to 20 years. None of them were injured.
Assisting the sheriff’s department were the City of Waukesha Police Department, Village of Waukesha Fire and Town of Vernon Fire.
There was a mobile alert issued to warn people around the scene to shelter in place for several hours. A mistake made in issuing the alert sent it to other communities such as Franklin and Menomonee Falls.
It is believed this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The incident is currently under investigation by the City of Waukesha Police Department.
