Anyone who starts a new job and moves to a new city for it finds themselves in a constant state of transition of learning. So it is with new Packers coach Matt LaFleur.
“It’s been a crazy time for me right now,” said LaFleur on Wilde and Tausch, which airs daily at 9 a.m. on WTMJ sister station ESPN Milwaukee.
“I’m at Lambeau all day long, just been talking a lot. We’ve had a lot of guys in for interviews. I’ve been on the phone quite a bit. I’ve been ove at Hinterland (restaurant across from Lambeau Field in the Titletown district) quite a bit to have dinner every night. Just trying to really piece together our staff and build relationships with everybody in this building.”
The most visible relationship to build, of course, is that with two-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. That relationship has begun with LaFleur and the QB, through initial conversations.
“The one thing that came across early was how passionate he is for the game of football, how much he wants to win. There is nothing that is going to stand in his way of really getting after it. I’m looking forward to working with him, continuing our relationship,” he told Wilde and Tausch.
“Anytime you have a quarterback of his stature…it is a partnership. They are obviously a big part of what you do, not only offensively, but as a team as a leader. Guys are going to follow guys of (Rodgers’) caliber.”
Wilde and Tausch asked lots more about LaFleur, a lot on the football field and more off it. One key answer he gave when asked about his preference between wine, beer or protein shakes:
“Miller Lite.”
LaFleur sure knows his audience.
