It's called the Bicameral Congressional Trade Authority Act, but it's a lot less complicated than it sounds.
The new bill would require the president to seek congressional approval on any adjustments to imports in the interests of national security. In other words, Congress would have to sign off on any new tariffs.
“When it comes to trade, Congress has consistently surrendered its Constitutional authorities to the executive branch,” said Congressman Mike Gallager, (R) -WI.Â
