In Dodge County, you’ll find one of Wisconsin’s ecological wonders at the Horicon Marsh. This is the country’s largest freshwater cattail marsh, and it’s managed as both a National Wildlife Refuge and a State Wildlife Area.
There are several ways to enjoy the 33,000-acre marsh. One of the most popular pastimes is birdwatching. Horicon Marsh is a common stopping ground for migrating Canada geese and duck species. Over the years, more than 300 species of birds have been spotted at the marsh, including some of Wisconsin’s rarest.
