The story of Milwaukee Brewers legend Bob Uecker is now on the big screen in Ueck the Movie, a documentary celebrating his remarkable life, career and unmistakable sense of humor.
Director of Photography Joe Piccolo and editor Matt Prekop joined Sandy Maxx on What’s on Tap to discuss the process of bringing the documentary to life.
The project began as a passion project inspired by Uecker’s decades with the Brewers and his impact on Milwaukee baseball. Prekop said the filmmakers first met with Uecker over lunch, where conversations about baseball, Milwaukee and the documentary continued for hours.
The documentary combines modern interviews and footage with rare archival material from Uecker’s playing career, broadcasting years and television appearances. Prekop described the editing process as a “mining expedition,” involving countless hours of research through archives, libraries and old broadcasts.
