Coronavirus stopped 50,000 Democratic National Convention delegates and guests from converging on the Brew City this summer for the 2020 DNC.
However, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee says Milwaukee has shown it has what it takes to host a major political convention.
“Milwaukee is a world class city. They’ve proven in the run-up to this that they can handle a convention of this nature,” DNC Chair Tom Perez told WTMJ’s Steve Scaffidi on Thursday. “We would have shined.”
Perez believes this because despite being one of the smallest cities to ever compete for a major political convention, Milwaukee showcased the capability to not only hold the event, but follow through on every aspect of what a major political convention would demand.
“Anyone who asks me, ‘Did Milwaukee step up and deliver on every element?’ ” he said.
“The answer is 100 percent.”
Perez said Milwaukee would have to compete to get conventions like the 2024 DNC, but he explained the city showed it could be in a prime position to do so.
“If Milwaukee chooses to compete in the future,” he said, “they are going to be able to show they have a demonstrated track record of being able to step up.”
