MADISON, Wis.— A former municipal clerk and treasurer in southeast Wisconsin is facing criminal charges after prosecutors say she stole hundreds of thousands of dollars from a village government.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice and the Dodge County District Attorney announced charges against Deanna B. Braunschweig, who previously served as clerk/treasurer for the Village of Neosho and the Village of Chenequa.
According to a criminal complaint, Braunchweig allegedly stole more than $280,000 from the Village of Neosho between October 2018 and September 2025 while working in the position.
Investigators also allege she used a Village of Chenequa credit card to pay expenses tied to Neosho, including more than $3,5000 in waste and dumpster services as well as an internet bill.
Braunchweig was arrested Thursday and booked into the Dodge County Jail. She faces two counts of misconduct in public office and two counts of theft in a business setting.
Authorities say the investigation was led by the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
As with any criminal case, the charges are accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
