WAUKESHA, Wis.— A social media post triggered a swift police response Sunday, just before the start of the City of Waukesha Christmas Parade.
According to Waukesha Police, the statement circulating online raised safety concerns due to its timing and wording, prompting officers to immediately open an investigation.
The individual who made the post was located and taken into custody without incident. WTMJ is not naming the person as they have not been formally criminally charged.
Authorities say there was never an active or ongoing threat to the community. The parade was not delayed or affected and continued as planned, though with enhanced security measures in place.
According to information obtained from police call logs, a post on a Facebook group indicated the Waukesha North marching band had canceled their planned performance in the parade due to cold weather conditions. Another user then commented, “I feel like the 1993 Falling Down movie and I’m one more thing away from snapping,” which police noted was “eluding to a movie where a male cracked and then killed a bunch of people.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
