TOWN OF SPRING PRAIRIE, Wis. — A man died and two people were seriously injured in a crash between a three-wheeled motorcycle and an SUV Saturday morning.
The driver of the motorcycle, 73-year-old Mark Weis of Burlington died at the scene. A passenger in the motorcycle and the driver of the SUV are hospitalized with significant injuries.
Walworth County Sheriff’s Office responded to Hwy. 11 and County Hwy. JS in the Town of Sun Prairie around 9:30 a.m. on July 5, where they found the motorcycle with heavy front-end damage and the SUV on its side.
Investigators believe the motorcycle had struck the side of the SUV. The motorcycle was traveling westbound on Hwy. 11 and the SUV was traveling westbound on CTH JS. The SUV then attempted to turn left onto Hwy. 11 from a stop sign and entered the path of the motorcycle.
The sheriff’s office said neither occupant of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet.
Investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, an average of 99 motorcyclists die in crashes every year.
