UPDATE:
Milwaukee Police have taken two people into custody in connection to a vehicle crash along the Milwaukee River that followed a short pursuit on Milwaukee’s south side Wednesday night.
Police say they spotted the vehicle around West Historic Mitchell Street and South 5th Street around 7:26 p.m. without a license plate and having driven through a red light. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, it continued to drive away.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle rolled down an embankment on the 100 block of South 1st Street near the river. A dive team was called to the scene. They searched for over two hours before it was called off after finding out no one was in the river.
Police add the two people inside the vehicle, a 38-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, were helped out of the vehicle and taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
An investigation is ongoing.
