Delafield Police Chief Erik Kehl says the suspect in this manhunt has been taken into custody.
“The suspect was taken into custody without incident,” Chief Kehl said during a press briefing just after 11:15 this morning.
23 year-old Nathanael Benton had been the subject of a multi-jurisdictional manhunt for much of the morning after police say he opened fire on two officers sometime after midnight in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn Express near Highway 83 and Gulf Road.
Both officers were taken to the hospital but are expected to recover. Kehl said his officer was taken to the trauma center but has been released but is doing, “as good as can be expected.” He did not elaborate on the extent of the injuries.
Benton was wanted in Fargo, North Dakota, on an attempted murder charge. Along with Benton, Kehl says two other people have been arrested. Charges against all 3 are pending.

Delafield Police now confirming two officers from two separate departments were shot in an early morning incident in Delafield.
Delafield Police Chief Erik Kehl says the incident happened ‘sometime after midnight’ but was unable to pinpoint an exact time during a press briefing to reporters this morning.
The officers were members of the Hartland Police Department and Delafield Police Department. Chief Erik Kehl this morning did not provide a status update on the health of the two officers but says the Delafield officer was able to return fire.
The suspect is still at large. A photo is below:

Delafield Police now confirming that two officers were shot overnight, prompting the emergency alert to be sent out. As of this posting police were not able to provide an update on the status of the officers who were hurt but say that the suspect is still at large.
I-94 in both directions around Highway 83 are also closed because of the incident. The DOT is providing the following directions for alternate routes.
Heading Westbound: OFF at HWY SS to HWY 16 or HWY 18 to HWY 67 back to I94.
Heading Eastbound: Off at HWY C to HWY 16 or HWY 18 to Hwy 67 to I94.

DELAFIELD– Delafield Police sending an emergency warning to cell phones of people who live in the area this morning, asking residents to stay away from the area of Highway 83 and Gulf Road.
The emergency alert was sent around 4:20 this morning.
The emergency alert read in part, “If you live in the immediate area please take shelter in the lowest level of your home/business and wait for the all clear.”
