UPDATE 10:10 pm: Wauwatosa Police Chief Barry Weber provided an update on the shooting outside Mayfair Mall.
He says the male suspect was part of a group of about ten people causing a disturbance inside the mall around 5:40 p.m. Sunday. Mall security called police for assistance. When officers arrived, he was one of at least four people who fled on foot when outside the mall.
An officer, who has not been identified, spotted the suspect, who was reported to have a gun on him, with a firearm. The officer fired his weapon and struck the suspect.
Efforts to treat the suspect were performed by officers and Wauwatosa Fire Department members on scene. The suspect was transported to Froedtert Hospital. He was pronounced dead around 6:30 p.m.
The officer who fired his weapon is on paid administrative leave. Milwaukee Police are leading the investigation into the shooting.

An investigation is underway regarding a fatal shooting in the Mayfair Mall area Sunday evening involving Wauwatosa Police.
Our news partners at TODAY’S TMJ4 report paramedics were called to the area after 6 p.m. Witnesses in the area tell them Wauwatosa Police are focusing on the parking lot next to The Cheesecake Factory.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office tells WTMJ they are aware of the situation and are monitoring. They have responded to the scene and say one person had died.
