Saint Francis Police are trying to find the caller that led to a “swatting” incident Monday evening.
Captain Tim Blunt says the department got a call just after 6:30 p.m. from an unknown person. They claimed they had just shot a family member inside a home, and that they were holding other family members hostage.
This prompted a response from the South Shore Joint Tactical Team to the 4400 block of South Delaware Avenue. When contact was made at the home where they thought these incidents took place, they found the person inside were safe and unaware that a call was made.
The department determining this was a “swatting” incident. It’s considered a harassment tactic where someone deceives an emergency service into sending an emergency response team to another person’s address.
Captain Blunt reminds his community that this incident does not pose any immediate danger to the public.
