A heavy police response in St. Francis near Bottsford and Pennsylvania Ave. Monday night is being attributed to a “swatting” incident.
St. Francis Police say “swatting” is a deceptive harassment tactic used to prompt a police and emergency service response to another person’s address by falsely reporting a crime.
Police were called to the home by an unknown caller claiming to have just shot a family member and was holding the rest of the family hostage.
The call prompted a large police response, including the South Shore Joint Tactical Team. Officers were able to make contact with those in the home and deemed the situation to be a hoax.
St. Francis police say the public is not in any danger, but are investigating further.
