WTMJ is proud to be the recipient of a 2020 regional Edward R. Murrow award for Overall Excellence in the Large Market radio category from the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA). The station was also honored with two additional regional awards for Breaking News Coverage and Newscast. The awards were announced Tuesday.
The Overall Excellence award was based on stories produced by WTMJ during the 2019 calendar year, including breaking news, continuing coverage, newscasts and feature reporting.
“I’m extremely proud that WTMJ continues to be recognized for excellence in broadcast journalism,” said Brad Lane, WTMJ/ESPN Director of Content.
“To be honored once again with regional Murrow Awards, it truly affirms this team’s relentless commitment to reporting and innovative storytelling when it comes to the most compelling coverage of Wisconsin’s biggest stories.”

WTMJ received a regional Murrow award for its Breaking News Coverage of the shooting of Milwaukee Police Officer Matthew Rittner. The newsroom was also recognized for its Newscast coverage of the shooting.
The regional award winners are automatically considered for national awards, which are announced this summer.
