MILWAUKEE – The MLB Draft gets underway this weekend, and Brewers Senior VP and GM Matt Arnold couldn’t be more excited.
“We have all of our scouts in town,” Arnold told WTMJ’s Wis. Morning News on Thursday. “We have draft meetings all day Thursday and Friday. Once we’re done with our meetings (Thursday) we’ll have a fun staff dinner. I love this time of year.”
Arnold recalled one year when the draft coincided with a Mötley Crüe/Def Leppard concert at American Family Field.
“Somehow they scheduled a concert the day of the draft,” he laughed. “We had to call a quick audible. We were scattered all over the place.” That draft worked out, however. It was the year the Brewers selected Jacob Misiorowski.
The 2025 draft starts Sunday. The Brewers have five first day picks, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. When asked about MLB’s desires to make the draft more televised, Arnold said: “The draft is obviously a big deal in the NFL. The difference is (MLB draftees) are going to go to an A-ball affiliate. There’s a long way to go (before making the big leagues), but getting to know them along the way is fun.”
“More eyes and ears on the draft is always a good thing for baseball.”
It’s been a good run for Arnold: In the draft (Misiorowoski), with recent trades (i.e. Quinn Priester & Andrew Vaughn), and with the current roster (Trevor Megill MLB All Star selection) but he refused to get too excited.
“You can never get too high or too low,” he said. “(The game) will humble you quickly.”
