It's the size of a car, but it runs 20 feet above the street and runs on solar power. And a company from Boston thinks it will become the future of intra-city transportation in Madison.
Transit X reportedly has pitched the idea of solar-power “pods” that would create a network of 7,100 vehicles and 700 stops which 95 percent of people in Madison could acess within five blocks of their home.
According to Madison.com, no tax dollars would be necessary to develop it. (You can see mockups in their story.)
“We’re creating something with the cost, the capacity and the convenience to be able to replace cars,” Transit X's Mike Stanley told the web site.
However, they reportedly have only built prototypes for the system, and the Madison City Council has concerns involving the overall revenue, project timeline, safety and more.
Stanley joined Wisconsin's Morning News with more. Listen to the full interview in the player above.
