MILWAUKEE — Former Wisconsin Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes is suspending his campaign for governor.

Barnes released a social media video on Thursday announcing the campaign suspension.

Thank you, Wisconsin. pic.twitter.com/FKDjCaPdJZ

— Mandela Barnes (@TheOtherMandela) July 30, 2026

The announcement comes the day after a new Marquette Law School poll showed candidate and State Rep. Francesca Hong widening her lead in the primary race.

Barnes’ announcement comes less than two weeks before Wisconsin’s August 11 Democratic gubernatorial primary, which once again has four candidates.

This is a developing story.
