KENOSHA, Wis.— A proposed casino and hotel project in Kenosha has moved ahead in the federal approval process.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs has released a draft environmental assessment for a proposed Hard Rock casino backed by the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin.
The assessment evaluates potential impacts of developing the site, including air quality, water resources, traffic, and public services. Federal officials say the analysis found the project would not create significant environmental impacts and would comply with federal and state regulations.
The proposed development would include a casino and hotel offering Class III gaming under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, similar to other tribal casinos in Wisconsin.
Local governments have already expressed support for the project. Agreements backing the proposal have been approved by both the City of Kenosha and Kenosha County.
Supporters say the development could bring significant economic activity to the region, including construction work and more than 1,000 permanent jobs once the project is fully built.
The environmental assessment is now open for public comment as the federal review process continues.
