MILWAUKEE – With the MLB trade deadline quickly approaching, Brewers Senior VP and General Manager Matt Arnold will have plenty of options to consider. Do you add someone new to a red hot clubhouse? Or do you keep the team as is?
“We believe in chemistry,” Arnold told WTMJ’s Wis. Morning News on Thursday. “It’s a special group. If you’re going to add somebody to that group (or take someone away) it’s important for us (to keep the chemistry). Our scouts go a great job getting intel on players.”
The Brewers may not have a big power hitter at the moment, but do they need one? As of Thursday morning, the Crew owned the best record in the MLB at 61-41.
“Obviously we all love home runs, but I believe manufacturing runs is under-valued,” Arnold explained. “Wood-peckers (as Pat Murphy calls them). Our guys just chip away. They grind you. It really does wear down the other team.”
The Brewers start a home-stand on Friday against the Marlins.
Friday’s game will feature former Brewers players participating in an alumni version of the Home Run Derby.
When asked which retired player could join the current roster and hit one out, Arnold said Ryan Braun.
“(Braun) still thinks he’s the best hitter in our lineup,” he said. “Same as Prince. They have that kind of edge.”
