UPDATE 7:30PM
MILWAUKEE- Milwaukee Police confirming an officer involved shooting that occurred near 27th and Wright on Milwaukee’s north side earlier this evening.
Police say they encountered an armed suspect when they arrived on scene. Police Chief Jeffery Norman says the suspect was ordered to drop his weapon. The suspect allegedly did not comply and fired his gun, at which point officers opened fire, killing him.
The victim’s sister, Ella Jones identified the victim as 42 year old Broderick Shelton Jr. Family members say Shelton suffered from mental health issues including schizophrenia.
Chief Norman did not identify the officer involved or provide any more detail of the interaction that led to the shooting. The Wauwatosa Police Department has been tapped to lead an investigation into the shooting.

MILWAUKEE- A large police presence near the intersection of 27th and Wright this afternoon after reports of a shots fired incident.
The Milwaukee Fire Department confirming that they were called to the area before 4:30 this afternoon. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office confirming that one person was killed.
