After being in the hands of the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission for over three months, the Milwaukee Police Department will conduct the internal investigation of Officer Michael Mattioli.
The decision by Acting Chief Michael Brunson came after he had a discussion with FPC Executive Director Griselda Aldrete on August 24.
Mattioli has been on suspension after an incident with Joel Acevedo inside his home back in April. He was charged on May 13 with allegedly causing the injuries that led to Acevedo’s death.
Several days later, the Fire and Police Commission took over the internal review, ending Milwaukee Police’s internal review so they could received all documents related to the incident.
The commission had indicated their staff had completed their investigation, resulting in disciplinary charges filed in July with a trial scheduled.
However, that will be canceled so that Milwaukee Police can complete their investigation and render an appropriate disposition.
There has been calls from Milwaukee leaders, including Mayor Tom Barrett, to have Mattioli fired for his alleged actions.
