The Milwaukee Health Department says schools and universities will not be allowed to hold in-person classes until the city enters the next phase of its reopening plan.
“MHD has received several questions about in-person school sessions for the upcoming academic year. As long as we remain in Phase 4, schools are not permitted to hold in person sessions,” the Milwaukee Health Department wrote in a statement.
But an earlier version of the city’s reopening plan called for schools and universities to resume in-person instruction in Phase 4 if they were able to meet gathering size limits without protective measures.
Milwaukee Public Schools had already made the decision to begin the year online, but this creates confusion for the city’s private schools, as well as Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.
