Municipalities are growing frustrated after issues with absentee ballots come to the surface. The City of Milwaukee is asking for a U.S. Postal Service Service investigation about its issues.
In Milwaukee, Elections Commission Executive Director Neil Albrecht says they have a lot of uncertainty with what ballots they can count given the Supreme Court’s postmark ruling.
“Many ballots do not have postmarks,” said Albrecht.
“For municipalities that use postage meters, a majority of their ballots do not have postmarks on it.”
He says it’s especially problematic with ballots received Wednesday, many which are lacking a postmark.
Republican State Senator Dan Feyen says he’s logging a complaint with the Wisconsin Elections Commission after three tubs of absentee ballots were found either coming or to going to voters in the Fox Valley.
A conundrum also happened in the Village of Fox Point. Manager Scott Botcher says a number of absentee ballots kept getting returned to the village despite repeated attempts to mail them to voters.
“We just had an issue where we would mail them out once requested, and some would come back, and we couldn’t really figure out why, so we sent them back out and keep taking them back. Ultimately. the vast majority of them made it,” he explained.
“We plan on catching up with the postmaster downtown.”
He says Fox Point had 2,877 requests for absentee ballots.
