The Waukesha Police and Fire Commission has announced a new chief of police: Daniel Thompson.
The commission chose him Friday to replace retired chief Russell Jack. His tenure is set to start on May 4.
Thompson served for nearly 30 years with the Milwaukee Police Department, and has been on the city’s executive team as Inspector of Police.
A statement from Waukesha says he has played a major role with the coordination of security for the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee, set for July.
“As a law enforcement official who has worked next door to Waukesha for many years, I am grateful for the opportunity to lead a department with a reputation as solid and stellar as Waukesha’s, and I look forward to meeting the great citizens of Waukesha,” said Thompson in the statement.
“The men and women of the Waukesha Police Department are extremely professional and have contributed to Waukesha’s reputation as a safe community. We are very happy to have Chief Thompson join our organization to continue this legacy,” added Mayor Shawn Reilly.
