MILWAUKEE- Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a tradition that began, and continues to be, celebrated in Mexico. The three-day holiday symbolizes the time each year that a family’s loved one that’s passed away, visits them in spirit.
Over the years, however, as more people immigrated to the United States, it’s become more prominent in communities across the country.
From sugar skulls, to elaborate ofrenda’s, WTMJ’s Mike Spaulding visited the United Community Center on Milwaukee’s south side to learn about the history of Dia de los Muertos.
