The immigration crisis along the U.S.-Mexico border continues to change on a regular basis.
This week, the Department of Homeland Security is moving to end a long-standing federal court agreement, called the Flores Agreement, that limits how long immigrant children can be kept in detention.
Typically, the policy requires the government to release children after 20 days.
Ending this agreement could hold undocumented families detained together indefinitely.
In Part 3 of “Along the Border,” WTMJ’s Melissa Barclay speaks with Dr. Carmen Alvarez.
She has a doctoral degree in Social and Health Sciences and has been working with the families and children who are at the center of the immigration crisis.
