Due to severe winter weather, I have declared a State of Emergency throughout the State of Wisconsin. I want to make sure all state assets are available, including the Wisconsin National Guard if needed, to help communities across the state and keep people warm and safe. pic.twitter.com/U9fy4FPygh

Original story
It’s not just schools, businesses and organizations that are planning a snow day. Many local governments have decided not to open up offices on Monday.
Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele was one of the first to declare a snow emergency for Milwaukee County employees from 9 p.m. Sunday through 6 p.m. Monday. With all non-essential personnel being told not to report to work Monday, all government offices and the circuit court system will be closed.
Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow has declared a winter weather emergency for Waukesha County from 6 p.m. Sunday to 6 p.m. Monday. They also are asking non-essential employees not to report to work Monday, meaning their offices and court system will be closed for the day.
Several other counties followed Sunday evening, including Washington and Dodge. The City of Waukesha also announced it will close its offices for the day.
Essential workers for county governments will still report to work. That includes road crews to salt and snow plow freeways and county road, and sheriff’s offices will be conducting patrols as usual.
Other services may also be impacted such as public transit. MCTS is still planning to run its routes as scheduled, but delays are possible. People can check on their status by going to ridemcts.com.
Also impacted is garbage and recycling collections in the City of Milwaukee. This has been canceled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, with a tentative resumption day set for Thursday. Part of the reason is due to collection trucks being fitted for snow removal operations.
Monday may not be the only day Milwaukee County government offices close this week. A decision will be made Tuesday morning regarding Wednesday office times due to extreme cold temperatures and wind chills in the forecast.
