(UPDATE 7:25 p.m. 9/4/25) MADISON — Dane County officials have identified the man who drowned in Lake Mendota as 33-year-old Omar Brito from Fitchburg.
He had jumped from a pontoon boat without a life jacket near Warner Beach on Monday evening. His body was recovered the next day.
MADISON — The body of a 33-year-old man who went missing on Lake Mendota over Labor Day weekend was recovered Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities with the Dane County Sheriffโs Office used divers, sonar, and an underwater drone to search water at depths of 30 ft. Monday evening. They resumed searching early Tuesday morning and recovered the body around 1 p.m.
The man’s name has not been released.
โOur hearts are with the family and friends of this young man,โ Dane County Sheriff Kalvin Barrett said in a statement. โLosing a loved one in such a sudden and tragic way is heartbreaking.โ
This is the second time a body was recovered from Lake Mendota this summer. The body of a middle-aged man was pulled from the water in July.
