Two Milwaukee Police officers were injured during a traffic stop on the city’s west side Monday evening.
The stop took place around 6:27 p.m. on North 25th Street near West Wisconsin Avenue for a 2019 Nissan Ultima that was speeding.
When officers approached the vehicle, they found suspected controlled substances in plain view inside the vehicle. This prompted a request for those inside to exit.
That is when a front passenger jumped into the driver seat and drove away with one of the officers partially inside the vehicle. It went about 70 feet before crashing into a tree.
That officer was taken to a hospital and later released, suffering from neck pain. A second officer was treated for an injury to their hand and released.
Two people inside the vehicle were arrested as police recovered a stolen handgun and the suspected controlled substances. The passenger who initially drove away was taken to the hospital for observations and later released.
