Expect your cell phone to buzz, similar to an Amber Alert , next Thursday at 1:45pm. That’s when the Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management will test out Wireless Emergency Alerts.
The text alerts will be used for tornado warnings, blizzard and extreme wind warnings, flash flood warnings and terrorist attacks.
The Wireless Emergency Alerts are broadcast from area cell towers to all WEA capable mobile devices. Users do not need to opt in or subscribe. And while not recommended, you can opt out.
