Businesses have been through the wringer over the last year, fighting to stay alive during the pandemic. But one man is taking action- raising money and giving back to businesses in Racine.
Soccer coach from the north shore of Chicago Stan Anderson started a Venmo Challenge in September and has been handing out cold, hard cash to businesses, with the help of generous donations, for the last 4 months.
“They’re struggling and we want to help,” Anderson said.
This is how the Venmo Challenge works; people can donate money to his wife’s Venmo or CashApp accounts and Stan and his family choose a business in need.
Anderson says 100 percent of the donations go to deserving businesses.
“Once we’ve collected that money we want to go to a restaurant, sit down, order our food, pay for the food ourselves, and then surprise what we hope is the owner of the place,” said Anderson. “And present them with straight up cash to use as they wish to help basically their bottom line or help their servers or anything they feel will help their business.” said Anderson.
To date, he’s given out $13,000. His next stop is Bernie’s Pizza in Racine Thursday at 4:30pm.
The best part, the owner has no idea that he’s coming. Well, maybe now he does.
